Netanyahu: US, Israel need to form NATO Middle East alliance to counter Iran threat

Israel's Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has stated that Israel and the United States need to form a new military bloc in the Middle East similar to NATO. Netanyahu proposed that this military bloc, called the “Abraham Alliance”, be formed to deal with the threat from Iran.

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made the clarion call during a speech before a joint session of the US Congress on Wednesday. This was Netanyahu's fourth time speaking before the American Parliament, an achievement that surpasses Winston Churchill's record. Despite this, around 70 members of the House and Senate chose not to attend for various reasons. “America has formed a security alliance in Europe to counter the growing Soviet threat,” Netanyahu said in his speech.

America and Israel must now form a security alliance in the Middle East to counter the growing threat from Iran,” he said. This statement refers to the April 14 incident when Iran launched a missile and drone attack against Israel, which was later stopped by American and British assistance. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu thanked US President Joe Biden for his efforts in bringing the alliance together. He also credited former President Donald Trump for mediating the “Abrahamic Covenant” between Israel and several Arab states during his tenure. “I think we should call it the Abraham Alliance,” he said of the proposed formation of a NATO-like Middle East military bloc, as reported by Russia Today on Thursday, July 25, 2024.

In his view, countries that have made peace or intend to make peace with Israel should join this bloc as Iran is considered a threat to all. “When we fight Iran, we are dealing with the most radical and deadly enemy of the United States,” Netanyahu said. “When Israel tries to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, we are not only protecting ourselves, but also protecting all of you,” he added.

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in a speech to US lawmakers, stated emphatically, “Our enemy is your enemy, our struggle is your struggle, our victory will be your victory.” He added, “I know America supports us.”

The US has provided military aid to Israel during its nine-month war with Hamas. The announcement was made by Netanyahu in the wake of the Palestinian resistance group's attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.

Due to pressure from Palestinians and Arab-Americans in Biden's party, the Biden administration proposed a three-stage ceasefire plan in the region, but Israel is still reluctant to accept the proposal.

Israel's Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, insists that Israel will not rest until it destroys Hamas' military power, ends the group's rule in Gaza, and ensures the safe return of all hostages taken in the October 7 attack.
